Nighttime in Acapulco

The ship is almost entirely enveloped by the mountains in the bay. They’re small but close. In the daytime, it’s a gorgeous landscape. At night, it’s like being surrounded by a halo.

The only way you can differentiate the black ground from the black sky is by the blanket of sequins someone draped across the horizon. Every direction you look, there are mountains sparkling in their entirety. Perhaps the fact that it’s Christmastime means there are even more lights are on display than usual.

Specks of gold, white, green, blue and red glimmer in the night as we sail away. Seagulls dance in the air alongside us as they escort us out to sea.

On to the next port—soon there will be a different kind of beauty to experience.
